THE FILMMAKER
Pia Hellenthal is a Cologne and Berlin based writer and director working in both fiction and documentary. She graduated from Academy of Media Arts Cologne with a Diploma in Media and Fine Art. Her films screened at various international film festivals like Karlovy Vary and the Berlin International Film Festival,  where she shortlisted for the Teddy Award and the Documentary Prize, nominated for the german critiques price and received prizes like the Special Mention in CPH DOX Competition and Outview Audience Award for best film. Next to her own films, Hellenthal has been working for publications like Vice where her work got awarded with the Pink Pudel, as well as nominated for the Lovie Awards and licensed to international TV Stations.

THE RESIDENCY
During the residency, Hellenthal worked on editing the footage she shot for her latest feature documentary Searching Eva; the tale of a contemporary icon, growing up in the age of the Internet and turning the search for oneself into a public spectacle. Searching Eva premiered 2019 at Berlinale and has been traveling over 60 international film festivals since.
