THE FILMMAKER
Omar Sfeir began experimenting with film and photography from an early age until the conception and finalization of his first two short films: Salwa - Empreintes d'un album photo, and a feature documentary entitled Album. A photographer and filmmaker, his work focuses on the documentation of human intimacy and the complexity of human relationships regarding gender and sexuality, all while questioning normality. He simultaneously captures human relationships on their largest scale; revolutions, uprisings, movements.
THE RESIDENCY
At BAR, Sfeir worked on a photography series and video capturing on one hand couples making love, and on the other, solitary individuals grappling with the pain of a recent breakup. The project is inspired by a polaroid picture taken from the artist’s personal archive depicting him and his former lover in an indoor corner with two chairs overseeing Beirut’s sea. In the new series of photographs, the bed is the only common element, reflecting memories from love to loss. The moment captured is unique and archived, however the perspective of looking at it in the future is different, especially after it’s gone. The images taken in the present become an observation of feelings provoked in the past.
